For Ruth, creating rarely begins with a fully formed picture of the finished piece. It begins with attention: an impression, an emotion, a question, a spiritual encounter, a form or an idea that invites exploration. The canvas becomes a place to respond.

Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, Ruth builds her paintings in layers. Natural lines, harmonious tonal values and flowing, often restrained colors are combined with pencil, charcoal and ink. Marks are added, obscured and rediscovered as the work develops, allowing earlier layers to remain present beneath the surface.

Born and raised in the Zürcher Oberland in Switzerland, Ruth's creative education began with a Matura focused on the arts before she went on to earn a master's degree in practical theology and complete training as a coach.

She returned intensively to painting in 2012 and has worked as a freelance artist since 2016. Largely self-taught, Ruth describes herself as a lifelong learner whose practice continues to evolve through experimentation, study and the exploration of new creative disciplines.

Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Switzerland and internationally, including exhibitions and artistic projects in Germany, the United Kingdom and Ecuador. Beyond her own studio practice, Ruth teaches painting and creative process, leads and mentors other artists, and has developed workshops that help both emerging and experienced artists move from inspiration toward a thoughtfully composed work.

Whether working quietly in her studio, painting before an audience or guiding another artist through the creative process, Ruth continues to return to the same territory: the space between what can be seen and what can only be sensed.
